How to compare installed garage-door opener quotes

Compare the complete installed scope before choosing an opener quote. Start with the exact model, the door it will operate, and the complete written total. A useful estimate explains what is included and what still needs confirmation.

Start with the same equipment and installation conditions

Two totals may describe different jobs. One could cover installation labor, while another includes a new opener and selected accessories. Confirm the model and supplied controls first. Then ask how the installer will assess the door, power supply and installation conditions.

You do not need to diagnose the door yourself to have this conversation. A short description of the existing setup and any problem you have noticed gives the installer a starting point.

Confirm the exact opener model and which accessories are included.
Confirm the rail or extension needed for the door height.

Write down the complete scope

Use the questions below to compare both estimates. Mark each item included, excluded or not sure. An exclusion is a question to clarify rather than an automatic reason to reject a quote.

When an item is separate, ask for its cost or terms before comparing totals. Keep the installer’s written answer beside the estimate so you can understand exactly what you would approve.

Ask whether installation labor is included in the written total.
Ask whether removal and disposal of the old opener are included.
Confirm the manufacturer-required safety setup and testing.
Ask what written parts and labor warranty applies and who handles a claim.
Ask whether the written total includes taxes, travel and any other fees.

Keep an unknown separate from an omission

Not sure means the estimate has not confirmed the item. Ask the installer to clarify it. Do not turn an unclear description into a claim that the work is missing or the company is dishonest.

Once the scope is clear, consider the installation fit and the written warranty along with the price. The checklist is a way to organize questions; it is not an inspection or a verdict about an installer.

An item marked not sure is unconfirmed, not necessarily missing. An excluded item may be reasonable; compare the complete written scope and total.
A scope checklist does not establish whether a price is fair or an installer is trustworthy. Door condition, balance, electrical supply and fit still need assessment.

How CLE describes its standard installation

CLE publishes its standard package scope and asks about the setup before confirming the work. Other conditions can require separate work and a different total.

The free quote checker asks the same scope questions without requesting your name, address or a quote upload. Use it to prepare a conversation with any installer.

The standard package includes the opener, installation for one suitable 7-foot door, programming, final operation and safety testing, and tax.
Necessary door repairs, electrical work and special-fit parts require a separate confirmed quote before approval.
